Creating My Own Essential Oil Products feat. Simply Earth

Itโ€™s not news that 2020 has been both a blur and a headache at once (read the room 2020โ€”pick a struggle!)

Without spending too much time mulling over the details, one of the silent gifts recent events have taught me is to be more intentional with what I consume. Whether thatโ€™s what I watch or listen to, purchase, put IN my body and put ON my bodyโ€”Iโ€™m slowly applying my favorite motto, Live Intentionally, to aspects of my life that were widely ignored.

One aspect of being more intentional with my consumption is making the decision to choose natural, toxin-free, and purpose-filled items that air on the side of โ€œgeneral wellness.โ€ On top of that, itโ€™s even more exciting when opportunities arise to create my own products, with the help of professionals and/or services, to have the ultimate hands-on approach.

That said, todayโ€™s post is diving into one fantastic addition to my self-care drawer, created by a company I have come to respect, Essential Oils from Simply Earth. With a healthy range of products and Essential Oil Recipe Boxes, you can receive a curated monthly box filled with 100% pure therapeutic grade oils and toxin-free ingredients to bring your own creations to life.

Thank you to Simply Earth for sending me their August Essential Oils Recipe Box and Big Bonus Box to test out for myself and readers.

how i started using essential oils

Essential oils have always been essential (can I count that as a pun?) in my life since college. After exhausting myself with those famous candles and room sprays from a well-known "store who shall not be named," I turned to healthier options.

I purchased my first oil diffuser in my junior year of college, from Ross, at the peak of the trend. It was inexpensive and came with two starter oilsโ€”both of which posed unknown sources with unknown intentions. That was a step in the right direction, but, over time, I realized that I needed to step up.

Soon enough, I was researching the difference between essential oils and what to look out for.
For example, there is such a thing as a cute-looking oil set on a shelf filled with synthetic fillers and "extenders." Not only are they adorably fake, but they're usually priced and packaged in a manner that isn't telling or honest. They don't want to show you the list of ingredients and claim that they're not ethically sourced. They just want to hook you with a smart-sounding mixture and "aesthetic" packaging.

My point is, on your hunt for a "good thing," make sure you give yourself the time to search or save up for the "best thing."

Additionally, always do your research on how certain products can be used (and in what way or proper container). Although I started as a trendy โ€œoil diffusing relaxation queen,โ€ I soon realized that I was positively affected by oils in roll-on bottles that can be applied to the temples and wrist to relieve headaches, especially as a student.ย

After experimenting and doing my research, I was a new woman who began expanding her knowledge of the use of oils. Speaking of, here are a few ways you can, in your own time, grow with essential oils (found on Healthline):ย

  • Use a diffuser to disperse your essential oils into the air.ย
  • Inhale the oil directly from its container, taking a few deep breaths to get the best results.ย
  • Mix the essential oil with a carrier oil and apply to your skin. As long as itโ€™s diluted, this can be great to help relieve tension, pain, or aid in relaxation.ย
  • Add essential oils to a bath or shower products, once diluted, or add some droplets into your shower while bathing for a slight fragrance.ย

what i am using (and loving) now

Now that you have an idea of what my essential oil journey has looked like thus far, Iโ€™m sure you can imagine how happy I was to receive one of Simply Earthโ€™s Essential Oil Recipe Boxes!

It's easy to tell that Simply Earth ensures they include the best products and ingredients into their subscription recipe boxes, without the fear of over-packing each box to full value capacity! The August Recipe Box, for example, comes with;ย

  • 4 essential oils; Citrus Burst (my favorite: super tangy), Grapefruit (so refreshing), Copaiba (new for me: very warm and subtle), and Juniper Berry (love the fresh "Forrest" vibes!)ย
  • Cotton face pads
  • A spray bottle
  • 2 lip balm tubes

What I appreciated most is the packaging, overall, and how intentional the August Recipe Box felt. Right away, I was planning on creating my own toner using products in my skincare cabinet and a Simply Earth oil (a small and diluted amount, of course). Not only that, but this box gave me the option to do something I've never done beforeโ€”create my own lip balm.ย

With Simply Earth's August Box, you can receive a FREE Big Bonus Box that genuinely blew me away and was jam-packed with every resource needed to DIY your heart out. This included:ย

  • Beeswax (I mean WHEN was I ever going to purchase Beeswax for myself?!)ย
  • Coconut oil (a pretty large container's worth, might I add)ย
  • Fractioned Coconut Oil
  • Almond Oil
  • 6 5ml Bottlesย
  • 6 Roll-on Bottles

Although I didn't know where to start after unpacking each item, the included recipe cards made sure I found my way soon enough. Personally, it's the intentional guidance for me (trendy meme reference, anyone?) All jokes aside, I was pleasantly surprised with the August Recipe Box itself, but all the more enthralled with the addition of the Big Bonus Box. This almost seemed like a necessary extension of the monthly subscription, and one I would've missed if not included.ย

Even as I traveled around Texas for personal reasons, I quickly created my own concoction and brought it along using one of their Big Bonus Box Bottles. For almost two weeks away, I used one roll-on bottleโ€™s worth of product and never got tired of the effect their Citrus Burst oil provided. Which, speaking of Citrus, was also one of my first DIY projects after reading their Sweet Citrus Lip Balm recipe card. With all of the ingredients provided, I was in awe of how simple it was to create this lip balm. Even with the struggle of not having the right kitchen tools to pour my creation into the lip balm tubes, I was still moderately successful and happiest with my results a second time around.

I could go on forever, but I really hope anyone who is still considering taking a leap into the essential oil world gives it a chance.
The benefits are amazing, but it's the idea that I'm choosing to invest in myself in new ways that really tops the cake.
